Surrounded by the Tagus River, built on protected steep cliffs and encircled by high walls, the city has always been a valuable city throughout history, from Romans to Visigoths, from Andalusia to the Kingdom of Spain. At the same time, Toledo, which was the center of Judaism until the late 15th century on the Iberian Peninsula, houses many important structures ranging from Europe's oldest synagogue still standing to dozens of churches converted from mosques and the magnificent cathedral where Spain was religiously governed, and is almost a mosaic where three monotheistic religions and their peoples intertwine. Until the Empire moved its capital to Madrid in 1561, Toledo was the political, cultural, commercial and military center. The city inspired Cervantes' immortal work Don Quixote of La Mancha, and a large part of the story takes place in this city and its surroundings. It is a palace where pleasure and enjoyment were enjoyed in its elegant courtyards, deadly intrigues, and at the same time the largest and most beautiful example of Islamic architecture in the West. The enchanting palace, which seems to have come out of the 1001 Nights tales, was lost to Queen Isabel by Sultan 12. Muhammad (Boabdil) at an unexpected moment and in an unforeseen way.
